Here are some snapshots of my life over the last month, predominately the last couple of weeks,  since I finished my first year of University. 
Summer has just arrived - the days are getting warmer, the nights longer and I can't wait to see what the next few months has in stall for me.

BITS & BOBS

One of my favour things to do as the weather gets warmer, or in fact in any weather is to make yummy meals (mostly breakfast) and eat them in the sunshine, while drinking tea or a smoothie, reading a magazine and listening to music.

Exploring, having picnics in stunning locations and going to markets are things I love to do all year round especially during the holidays.

Khailah Palace Skirt

My sister Rachael salt-style just finished her first year of a Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles. 

For one of her final projects she designed a range inspired by the Khailah Palace in Yemen. Then made one of her skirt designs. 

I photographed our other sister Grace wearing the Khailah Palace Skirt by the beach and on our roof as the sun rose on Tuesday morning.

Splendour in the Grass.... Where can I start!

After staying with a friend in Lismore, and day tripping to Byron Bay Sarah, Rach and myself set off to North Byron Parklands on Wednesday 23^rd of July.

Around 5pm we met up with our fellow campers and our convoy of 3 cars joined the line driving down the lantern lined, dirt track towards the festival. Setting up a tent is hard enough, let alone in the dark but we managed and got on to cooking dinner (if you excuse nearly blowing up our stove).

The perks of camping at the festival started to show on Thursday when we had a day to explore the markets and festival grounds before the fun really began.

Friday was the first day of the festival and we kicked off the day with the DMA’s, followed by The Preatures and The Kite String Tangle. When you’re listening to Ball Park Music at the amphitheatre as the sun sets you know you’re in for a good night. Asgeir, the Hoodoo Gurus and Childish Gambino prepared us for Friday nights headliner act Outkast - Let me here you say “Hey Ya…. Hey Ya.” Outkast had us so pumped that we went to the Global Village Drank Coconut Chai and danced till 1 in the morning, then found a garden filled with floating hammocks, so jumped the fence and hung out there until it got to cold to sit in summer clothes in winter weather in the early hours of the morning.

Saturday morning was spent sticking jewels on and painting our faces before heading into the festival to catch the second half of Cicra Waves (only regret not seeing the first ½ of the set). Sticky Fingers was up next followed by The 1975 – they were amazing, I have been having a obsession with The 1975 since. We went to Art vs Science which was also incredible, the vibe during ‘Parlez-vous Francais was something else! We saw The Jezabels that night, it was the only time it rained the whole weekend, and the lead singer Hayley Mary was so emotional and appreciative because they grew up about 20 minutes from Byron. She crowd surfed and their music was awesome. We also saw Foals and Rufus before heading back to the Global Village, where my sister and I spotted Sean Keenan.

We painted and bejewelled our faces once again on Sunday morning and headed to Broods, followed by Jungle. We danced like crazy people at Buraka Som Sistema, which was so much fun. That night we saw Grouplove as the sunset, and Chvrches, both were incredible. We ended the night with Nina Las Vegas, Foster the People and Ben Howard.

We packed up on Monday morning and headed off after jumpstarting one of our cars (what’s a road trip without at least one flat battery?) Making a few food stops along the way it wasn’t until we were nearly back in Sydney that it hit me the awesome adventure was coming to an end. I cannot wait for my next festival experience!

My sister showed me her blog in 2011 and I have been checking it regularly for the last few years. 

Her style is awesome, I especially love her outfits from a couple of years ago. 

She travels to the most amazing places and after watching this video I am tempted to buy a plane ticket to anywhere in the world and explore.

I always admire this little house up the street from where I live. It is so cute and as the sunsets it makes cool plant shadows on the garage door. There are chairs and a BBQ on the front deck and the people have chilled gatherings in the Summer. I had one shot on my camera left so I decided to take a photo of it on my way home.

I purchased a box of 6 Disposable Camera's in the Summer Holidays for $30, I have had my first two lots of film printed and I am happy with how they worked out. Its lots of fun playing around with the cameras.

'Howdy, Y'all'

I recently read an article about Texas ‘Howdy, Lone Star’ in Issue 69 of Yen Magazine.

I have never taken much interest in travelling to Texas, but after reading this article I have an undying sensation to travel to its capital Austin.

I will say no more but merely let you read the article for yourself.

Art Slump

Many people have told me that after doing HSC art they find they cannot get into making art for a lengthy period of time.

I really enjoyed completing my major work and it pushed me to new limits. I discovered talents, which I was not aware I had which was extremely satisfying. Therefore I would not have considered that I could experience this so called slump. Until this moment when I realised I was in that ‘Art Slump’ everyone talks about.

I had started little bits and pieces of drawings and paintings but I was yet to finish them since completing year 12.

I was inspired to start a new little artwork after reading the 69^th Issue of Yen, which I am yet to reveal as I have completed about 1/7^th of the work. But I am really excited about it.

So I have been drawing quite a bit over the last few days, probably not my best decision considering the amount of work that sits in front of me waiting to be studied for the end of semester exams.

Nevertheless I have no regrets and I am embracing my artistic mood.

So back to the slump, while studying at about 11pm I though back to an art activity I did in year 8 at school. It was so simple yet I loved it and I find myself doodling using the technique quite often.

It is blind contour drawing. I got out my art book closed my eyes and drew continuous line faces for about an hour. It is awesome because each time I opened my eyes I was not sure what I would see, whether the face would appear somewhat realistic or whether it would be completely unrecognisable.

I guess I find my inner Picasso by doing this because the first time this technique was showed to me it reminded me of Picasso's work.

I tend to draw and paint realistically and the totally unrealistic nature of blind contour line drawing helps me step out of my comfort zone.

Back to the point I think doing this little art task helped me out of my ‘Art Slump’ which I was unaware I was in until now.

I highly recommend doing some continuous line or blind doodles as they are pleanty of fun and the results are surprisingly cool.
